Our Actors and Actresses Prepare

Well it has been an exciting two weeks with our first full cast rehearsal and our first partial cast scene work (check out the gallery for some photos). The full cast event on the 13th included some dramaturgy work where our actors shared some of the things that shaped LM Montgomery and the Anne series of books as well as facts about Canada and life at the turn of the century. Did you know: Montgomery’s mother died at a young age and she was raised by her grandparents on Prince Edward Island? The average low temperature in Charlottetown in December is 10 degrees? Charlotte, NC and Charlottetown PEI are 1202 miles apart? Those are just a few of the things our actors learned.  We also enjoyed a read through of the script and moved outdoors to practice our dancing (and discovered we needed the practice) In our first scene rehearsal, on the 20th our actors shared some of the information they had learned through a simple getting to know you exercise. Each actor answered Who, What, When, Where, Why and How about their character.  It was interesting to hear the details that each actor came up with both from the book and from their imagination. There was detailed work on each scene in the backyard to get a sense of the scale of the performance space at Jay M Robinson followed by more dancing practice. (We are already getting better!) I can’t wait until this Thursday’s to hear from more of our actors about their characters and to see how well lines are progressing!

It’s that time of year

The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing and budding actors are busy studying their lines. I am pleased to say that we have cast the 2010 show, Anne of Avonlea, and now the work begins. We announced parts on May 2nd much to the excitement of all. Kids were given sealed envelopes with their invitation to play a part enclosed. We got at least one good excited scream out of the group as they tore into their invitations. I already have a talented crew working behind the scenes on props, sets, costumes, sound, music, etc. I will keep you updated as we learn lines, sew costumes, paint a backdrop and more. We all appreciate your prayers, encouragement and excitement.

Thanks,

Mr. Bill

Welcome!

The Light Theater Co. is . . .  a dream, a learning experience, a great time, a family friendly event, a group of diverse parts that make up a wonderful whole. We bring homeschooled kids together to get involved with all of the aspects of a theater production from before the first read through to after the final bows. Take a moment to look around at who we are, what we have done and what we are doing. If there is something that you like, something that makes you wonder or something that inspires you please consider dropping us a note or joining us for the next show.

Thanks,

Bill Brent
