Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité

The light theater has always strived to set itself apart from other theater companies, from being more family oriented to having the cast participate in all aspects of the theater.

One thing that really sets the light theater apart is its comradery between all theater participants, from our youngest cast members to the tech team, everyone is working as a one to bring the show to life.

“It really adds something to a show, a lot of people have referenced a soldier, yes you are a soldier but you’re also a part of an army, in our case you’re not just an actor you are a part of this theater company.”- Corinne Nelson, actress for The Light Theater

When an entire company is passionate about one thing and everyone’s focus is making the audience believe it and be passionate about the same thing it can create an amazing show that no one person could have done by just directing others, but it take a group of people taking responsibility and initiative to bring the show to life as we’ve done in the past.

Throughout the duration of the show there are so many variables and things that as an actor or crew member you have to deal with on the spot to keep the show running smoothly, this is almost impossible without working as a team, whether it’s moving sets or a quick costume change, having someone who cares about the success of the play as much as you who is willing to help makes all the difference.

Another reason why it’s crucial for a theater company to encourage comradery between all participants is because of the stress involved in bringing the show to life, one person cannot put on a play alone so having someone there to share the jobs, and offer ideas and words of encouragement changes the game completely, and adds a lot to the success of the show.

Since the beginning The Light Theater has taken steps to encourage unity among cast members, from assigning seats for dinner with people you maybe wouldn’t usually talk to, to having the cast see firsthand the work that goes into tech, sets, costumes ect. as well as helping with them themselves, no matter what age. This was intentional and wise as it has brought something to the shows beyond good acting or accurate costumes, but it has really turned a company into a family, all working in harmony to bring a shared passion to life.
